Trojans topped in season opener
Fairfield volleyball bested by Pella to open season

Tuesday night marked the beginning of the season for Fairfield volleyball.
The Trojans hit the road to matchup with the Pella Dutch.
It was a tough night for the Trojans, as the Dutch were winners in three straight sets.
Despite the loss, Fairfield showed a lot of promise in the opening night contest.
After a tough first set in which the Trojans were defeated 25-8, they rebounded with a pair of hard fought matches to end the night.
In the second set, Fairfield was edged 25-20 and in the third and final they were bested 25-18.
Leading the Trojans in kills on the night was Macy Rayburn and Lilly Bergren. Both ended with six kills a piece. Maggie Rayburn added four kills and Rowan Terrell ended with three.
Maddie Jones paced Fairfield in the assists column. She racked up 12 assists in the matchup.
Kiya Robertson led on the defensive side of the net. Robertson tallied six digs. Lilly Bergren and Coty Engle had four each.
Fairfield did well serving the ball too.
As a team, the Trojans had a serve rate of 96%, along with three aces.
Next up for the Trojans is their home Steve Heisel Quad on Thursday featuring Albia, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Hillcrest Academy.
The quad is set to begin at 5:45 p.m.
