Trojans topple Bloodhounds in tennis opener
Fairfield boys and girls pick up victories in season opener against Fort Madison

Both the Fairfield boys and girls tennis teams opened their season on Thursday afternoon against Fort Madison.
Each picked up a win over the Bloodhounds.
The Trojan boys played host and dominated in a complete sweep, 9-0, while the girls were able to edge the Bloodhounds 5-4 in the first competition of the season.
On the boys’ singles side, the Trojans gave up just five total points per set.
Garrett Flanagan downed Fort Madison’s Aiden Benda 6-1 in the first set and 6-0 in the second for the victory.
Jace Hannes was a winner 6-0 in both of his sets in the second position.
Fairfield’s Dil Hurlin defeated Jedidiah Bruster 6-4 and then 6-0 for the win.
Ethan Cass didn’t give up a set point, winning a pair 6-0.
Rylan Anderson and Niko Emerson were both winners as well, 1-0.
In doubles, Flanagan and Hannes were 1-0 match winners.
Hurlin and Emerson took the first set 6-4 and then won a hard fought 7-6 (7-2) second set for the win.
Cass and Anderson won the No. 3 doubles match 6-1 and 6-0.
For the girls, Madison Greiner, Emma Wendland, Una Carter and Lola Hatchette were all victorious.
Greiner won her match 8-4 over Brianna Wright, Wendland was a winner 8-5 over Lauren Otte, Carter defeated Makenna Pixler 8-5 and Hatchette won her match 8-2.
The Trojan’s Sydney Wells and Giteeka Adhikari came up just short in their matches 9-8 and 9-7.
In doubles, Wendland and Adhikari picked up the narrow one point set victory 9-8 to secure the Trojans a victory in the competition.
The pair of Wells and Greiner fell by one point 9-8, while Carter and Hatchette came up two points shy, 9-7.
The Trojan boys will be back in action on Monday at home against Ottumwa, while the girls will have to wait until Thursday to host Burlington.
Both now sit at 1-0.
