FAIRFIELD — Fairfield boys basketball played host to Williamsburg on Monday night. The Trojans battled the Raiders hard, but had to watch their first half lead dissipate into a 56-47 loss.
Williamsburg got out to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the contest.
However, the Trojans dominated the tail end of the period, outscoring the Raiders 14-2 to make it 14-7 after one quarter of action.
Fairfield would never trail in the first half, but Williamsburg narrowed its deficit through the second.
The Trojans struggled to put the ball in the basket through the second quarter. They went over five minutes without a field goal and scored just three points through that span.
On the contrary, the Raiders dropped in 10 points down to the 53 second mark in the frame to tie the game at 17-17.
The two squads tied once more at 19-19 before Spencer McCready knocked down two free throws to give the Trojans a 21-19 lead at half.
Despite the Trojan lead, Williamsburg continued its dominance.
Williamsburg put together a 17-5 run through six minutes to make it 34-24.
Fairfield was able to cut it down seven by the end of the fourth, 38-31.
In the fourth, the Trojans came as close as five, 39-34, off a three from McCready early in the quarter, but the Raiders followed with a 6-0 run and Fairfield would never come closer than eight.
