Highland drives past IMS
The Highland offense got rolling on Tuesday night, and after suffering a loss to New London on Saturday, it was a good sight for Hudkies girls? head coach Jody Fink.
?It was (what I wanted to see),? Fink said. ?We have some girls who are struggling shooting the ball right now, but the girls stepped up and took care of the ball from the start. After two turnovers, we had to work on our patience. We were able to work on things tonight, and it takes some time to work on it before it becomes reaction.?
The Highland offense and defense played well on Tuesday, holding IMS to only 16 points, including a scoreless fourth quarter, en route to a 61-16 victory.
Highland improved to 13-3 with the victory, while IMS fell to 0-12 on the year.
?After a game like this, there isn?t a whole lot you can say,? IMS head coach Kari Huisinkveld said. ?This is the first time where, in the first half, we didn?t have 110 percent effort. We?ll get back to it, and we need to work on our press breaks. We haven?t struggled against the press like this yet this season. We?ll stay positive and get right back to it.?
The Huskies were led by senior Cheyanne Adamson?s 15-point, 10-rebound double-double, and was joined by freshman Aly Stokes, who picked up 12 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals.
Senior Brianna Davis picked up 12 points of her own in the contest to go with six rebounds.
For IMS, the team was led by freshman Suzanna Yoder?s 12 points in the contest, to go with her three steals and two blocks.
Highland jumped out to a 21-5 lead after one quarter, and led 33-13 at halftime.
In the second half, the Huskies held IMS to three points, outscoring them 28-3.
Highland will move on to face No. 3 ranked Pekin on Friday night, while IMS will take on Columbus at Hillcrest Union.
Mid-Prairie falls late to No. 2 Regina
The Mid-Prairie girls? basketball team faced their seventh ranked team of the season on Tuesday night, and nearly pulled off the upset against Class 2A, No. 2 ranked Regina.
The Hawks saw their six-point fourth-quarter lead stumble, as they were outscored 21-9 in the final quarter, falling 56-50.
Mid-Prairie falls to 8-5 on the season and is now 1-5 against ranked teams, and 7-0 against unranked teams.
Mid-Prairie junior Ali Butters continued her strong season in the loss, scoring a team-high 15 points, while Alex Rath (11 points) and Addison Rath (10 points) each hit double-digit scoring in the game.

The Golden Hawks will continue their season with another ranked challenge on Friday night, when they host No. 9 ranked Monticello.
Pekin runs over Columbus
The No. 3 ranked Pekin girls? basketball team cruised past Columbus on Tuesday night, using their defense to propel themselves.
Columbus was held to two single-digit scoring quarters in the contest, scoring only four points in the third quarter, as they were handed the loss 69-40.
The loss marks the seventh in a row for the Wildcats, who now sit at 4-9 on the season.
