Behind a strong night from junior Ali Butters, the Mid-Prairie girls? basketball team picked up its first win of the year on Tuesday night.

Mid-Prairie downs Tipton
Behind a strong night from junior Ali Butters, the Mid-Prairie girls? basketball team picked up its first win of the year on Tuesday night.
Butters put in a team-high 14 points and notched a team-high five steals for the Hawks, and was joined in double figures by senior Alex Rath, who had 12 points in the 44-38 victory.
The game was tied 17-17 at halftime, before the Hawks pulled away in the third quarter and eventually sealed the game.
Freshman Shae Becker finished the game with a team-high six rebounds in the contest.
Mid-Prairie improved to 1-1 on the year and will take on Northeast Gooselake on Friday night.
Columbus girls fall to Lions
The Columbus girls? basketball team fell in a close game to Lone Tree on Tuesday night, 35-31.
Bailey Stroud finished the game with 11 points to lead the Wildcats, while senior Laura Mincks and sophomore Courtney Zaehringer each put in six.
Mincks also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Kortney Orr recorded three assists.
The Wildcats were held to three points in the second quarter of the game, as they trailed 17-9 at the halftime break. Columbus outscored Lone Tree 22-18 in the second half, but it wasn?t enough as they fell to the Lions.
Columbus will take on Winfield-Mt. Union on Friday
Keota boys earn first win
After a tough loss in the opener, Keota bounced back in conference play with a 66-63 victory over Belle Plaine.
The Plainsmen recorded 28 fourth-quarter points, but fell just short of knocking off the Eagles, who move to 1-1 with the win.
Keota had four players finish the game in double-figures, with Jacob Wickenkamp leading the charge with 19 points and eight assists. Avery Conrad had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Eagles in the victory, while Zach Mousel knocked down four 3-pointers for 16 points.
Keota will take on Tri-County on the road on Friday.
