The final boys’ basketball day of 2022 saw New London hand Moravia its first loss of the season. Keota won by 40 points on Monday, and the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division leaders continue to roll on.
New London 73, Moravia 59
The Tigers came into Moravia to face an undefeated Mohawk squad that had won all of its previous seven games by 27 points or more.
New London, however, was too much for Moravia, as the Tigers won the first three quarters. New London led 19-17 after one period, 37-29 at halftime and 62-47 at the third horn.
Moravia outscored New London by one point in the fourth, but by that time, it was too little, too late.
Danville 69, Cardinal 30
The Comets couldn’t defeat Danville in a game between former SEISC South Division foes.
In the first non-conference game between the two, Danville led 21-5 after one quarter, 36-13 at halftime and 63-24 after three quarters.
Danville guard Caiden Gourley scored 23 points to lead all scorers.
Keota 73, BGM 35 (Monday)
Keota ended the 2022 schedule one day early, and they did it in style, blasting BGM by 38 points.
The lead was single digits at halftime, as Keota held a 23-15 advantage, but the Eagles dominated the next two quarters, outscoring BGM 50-20 in the second half.
Cole Kindred scored 18 points in the win. Sawyer Stout put up 15 points. Aiden McGuire had eight. Aidan Anderson and Evan Vittetoe finished with seven apiece. Billie Kindred scored four points, and also led the team with 13 rebounds and five assists.
No. 5 (1A) WACO 72, Lone Tree 29
WACO continued it’s unbeaten run with a blowout win over Lone Tree. The Warriors led 20-8 after one quarter, 46-16 at halftime and 64-18 after three quarters.
Hunter Hughes had a monster game for WACO, scoring 28 points and leading the team with seven steals on the day. Colton Leichty finished the night with 13 points, and Cody Graber led the team with nine rebounds and four blocked shots to go along with his five points.
Hillcrest Academy 59, Wapello 46
The Ravens had to battle in a SEISC North game against Wapello, but a 20-point fourth quarter helped Hillcrest pull away.
The Ravens led 19-7 after one quarter, 29-24 at halftime and 39-34 after three periods.
Seth Ours hit six 3-pointers and finished the game with 22 points to lead Hillcrest. Grant Bender had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Jace Rempel scored eight points.
Louisa-Muscatine 54, Pekin 45
The Panthers held a 14-13 first quarter lead, but Louisa-Muscatine took the advantage in the second quarter and never let go.
The Falcons led the game 29-21 at halftime and 44-29 after three quarters. A 16-point Pekin fourth wasn’t quite enough to complete the comeback.
Winfield-Mount Union 69, Highland 34
Winfield-Mount Union stayed one game behind WACO and tied with Hillcrest Academy for second in the SEISC South, with a 5-1 record.
Highland, on the other hand, still is looking for its first win of the young season.
