The 2025-26 girls basketball season is shaping up to be a competitive one in the Southeast Conference. All six teams have played three games so far and will continue their seasons after the start of the new year.
Keokuk put itself at the front of a close race after a 3-0 start with wins over Burlington, Fairfield and Washington. Star guard Kendra Boatman currently leads the SEC in points (26.5), assists (3.8) and steals (5.5).
The Demons and Grayhounds aren’t far behind despite early defeats to the Chiefs. Both teams lost by under 10 points and, along with Ft. Madison, boast 2-1 SEC records.
Washington has won three straight after a 2-2 start, including conference victories over Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant. The Demons have allowed the fewest points among SEC teams this season, and are led on offense by Adalyn Long, who’s 14.1 points per game ranks fifth in the conference. Her 34.5% clip from 3-point range ranks No. 1 among SEC players.
Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant both sit at 1-6, and are off to 0-3 starts in the SEC. The Trojans suffered a defeat to Keokuk and the Panthers lost to Burlington in addition to their defeats to Ft. Madison and Washington.
The Trojans beat Knoxville 64-16 in their only win of the season. MP defeated Holy Trinity Catholic in a nonconference clash.
Faith Jones has been the standout for the Trojans. The senior averages 10.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
The Panthers will continue to lean on a trio of scorers hovering just over six points per game. Abigail Shelangoski has built on a promising freshman campaign and averages 6.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
