Girls state champions crowned
Solon, Johnston, Clear Creek Amana, Dike-New Harford and North Linn take home state titles

DES MOINES — The Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Championships are complete as all five champions have been crowned.
Johnston and Solon got things going on the girls side as the Dragons of Johnston (26-0) completed the perfect season and taking the 5A state title 48-36 over Dowling Catholic (21-5).
Solon (24-3) meanwhile, upset top seeded Estherville Lincoln Central (24-3) 54-47 for the 3A title.
The final three championship games featured the top two seeds in 4A, 2A and 1A.
In Class 4A, No. 1 Clear Creek-Amana (26-0) completed the perfect run, downing No. 2 Waverly-Shell Rock (25-1) 43-25.
Class 2A saw No. 1 Dike-New Hartford battle with No. 2 Panorama. In a back-and-forth affair. The top seeded Wolverines (26-2) were able to just edge the Panthers (25-2) 48-46 for the state title.
In Class 1A, No. 1 North Linn (26-1) downed No. 2 Newell-Fonda (24-3) 67-51.
The 2024 tournament was dominated by the top seeds, as four of the five title games were won by a No. 1 seed. Solon, a No. 3 seed, was the only non No. 1 to hoist the trophy.
