FORT MADISON — Fairfield opened its Class 2A postseason soccer schedule with an 8-1 runaway win over Washington Thursday.
Clear Creek-Amana (12-4) ended Mt. Pleasant’s season with a 3-0 victory. The Panthers end their year with a 2-13 record. No. 9 Fort Madison (15-1) hosted Clear Creek-Amana Monday.
In the Fairfield game, it was 5-1 by halftime. Andrew Twohill pounded the net for Fairfield, connecting on four goals. Blake Jarmosco notched two more scores. Ethan Nebinger and Xavier Kapijimpanga netted one goal apiece. Kapijimpanga, Drake Drish, Kyle Jeffery, Christian Bowman and Chance Swan each contributed an assist.
Angel Mata got his first varsity goal when Washington teammate Noah Suchan sent him a pass.
"They were able to send give-and-go through balls up so quickly that we couldn't come back,“ Washington coach Sally Hart said. ”I'm proud of this team and their record-setting season.
“ (The Demons) came into the season ready to make up for lost time after not getting to play last year. Our six seniors leave big cleats to fill, and I'm looking forward to see how our underclassmen step up next spring.“
Washington ends its season with a 9-6 record. Fairfield advanced with a 10-4 record to play at Pella Monday.
