Tyler Stoltz impresses at middle school state track

Van Buren seventh-grader Tyler Stoltz won two state championships last weekend in Ames at the middle school state track and field meet.
The Warriors scored 35 points and finished fifth as a team out of 29 schools that tallied a point, although Stoltz was the only competitor for Van Buren.

Stoltz' two titles were record-breaking. His high jump was a state-record tying leap of 5'6”, soundly defeating his nearest competitor's mark of 4'10”. Stoltz' 200 meter hurdles race set the small school state record with a time of 28.53, besting the old mark by 1.22 seconds. The soon-to-be Warrior eighth-grader finished second in the long jump where he flew 16'05” and third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.20, just .11 behind the winner.
