The 2024-25 high school girls wrestling season was full of twists and turns, but there were certainly some reliable trends that stayed true.
Mid-Prairie, Pekin and Sigourney-Keota continued to fill up the state girls wrestling list, much like the year before. The Union area had a handful of wrestlers finish on the podium, and SK’s Reanah Utterback finished her season atop the podium.
After a second-straight undefeated state title run, Utterback is again named the All-Union girls wrestling captain. Pekin’s Al Chapman earns the coaching nod.
Listed below is the full All-Union list for area girls wrestling 2025.
Coach: Al Chapman, Pekin
The Pekin wrestling team has been consistent in numbers ever since the sanctioning of the sport just three years ago, and this year the Panthers led the Union area in state tournament representatives.
The Pekin girls wrestling team sent four into Class 1A state brackets, placing one in the Top-6 and earning four wins overall in a busy weekend for Coach Chapman’s group.
Captain: Reanah Utterback (12), Sigourney-Keota
Choosing a captain for the All-Union sports teams is often a tedious one, but the last two years of girls wrestling have yielded obvious choices.
For the second year in a row, Sigourney-Keota’s Utterback went undefeated in her run to a state title. She rolled through the Class 1A 115-pound bracket, earning four pin falls at the state meet to further establish herself as one of the trailblazers of Iowa girls wrestling.
100: Alyvia Abbott (11), Fairfield
Abbott was one of the best performers the Southeast Iowa Union had to offer in any of the lighter weights this winter, winning over 30 matches in her junior year.
Given a tough bracket at the Williamsburg regional, Abbott could’t quite make it into the state field at 1A-105, having to settle for a 32-7 overall record this year.
105: Lexa Nelson (11), Pekin
The 105-pound weight class was extremely tough in the Union area this year, and nobody did it better than Nelson.
The Pekin junior battled through a tough regional tournament, defeating Fairfield’s Abbott for the second ticket at the state meet in the Class 1A 105 bracket.
At state, Nelson had one of the wildest journeys of any area wrestler, winning three matches, one by pin and two by decision. She finished sixth place, earning her first ever spot on the podium.
110: Austyn Sexton (10), Mid-Prairie
Mid-Prairie’s Sexton went 29-8 in her sophomore year, one of the top Golden Hawks on the mats all season.
Sexton had a tough bracket in the Class 1A Region 7 tournament at Solon. She won two matches, both by pin fall, but was beaten out for the final state spot, having to settle for third.
115: Gabby Gingerich (10), Mid-Prairie
Mid-Prairie’s Gingerich was one of three Golden Hawks to earn a spot in the 2025 state tournament.
Gingerich went 26-13 this season, including a win at state, which she got by medical forfeit. She ended her run at the Class 1A 115-pound bracket with a 1-2 mark.
120: Sadie Clarahan, (10), Sigourney-Keota
The Union area didn’t have any state qualifiers at 120 pounds, but Sigourney-Keota’s Sadie Clarahan had a fantastic regular season, and nearly made it to state.
Clarahan went 38-20 this season and finished third at the Class 1A Region 8 tournament in Williamsburg.
125: Kia Montgomery (10), Sigourney-Keota
Sigourney-Keota’s Kia Montgomery won over 30 matches this season, going 34-24 in a busy year on the mat
Montgomery finished her year at the state meet, going 1-2 in the Class 1A 125-pound bracket. She earned one pin at state, picking it up in the second round.
130: Ashlee Farrier (12), Mid-Prairie
Mid-Prairie’s Farrier made plenty of noise in her final year of high school wrestling. The Golden Hawk senior had the best mark of any of her teammates, and one of the best in all of Southeast Iowa.
Farrier went 40-4 this season and earned a spot at state in the Class 1A 130-pound bracket. She picked up three pin falls and a major decision, the ladder of which came in the fifth place match.
135: Lila Miller (135), Pekin
Miller had a fantastic run in 2024-25, going 28-6 on the year, one of the best marks of any area wrestler.
Miller went to the state tournament at 1A-135 and fell in both of her matches to finish out her campaign.
140: Hailey Pedrick (11), Pekin
Of all the Pekin wrestlers, nobody had a better overall record than Pedrick, who finished her junior year with a 37-5 mark.
Pedrick earned a spot in the Class 1A 140-pound state bracket and did win one match, earning a pin fall in a 1-2 performance.
145: Zenlynn Lee (11), Mt. Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant’s lone representative at the state tournament this year was Lee, a junior who had a fantastic run at regionals, winning the 145-pound bracket at Williamsburg.
Lee fell in both of her state matches, the second of which being due to injury, but gave herself a little taste of state heading into her senior year.
155: Karley Greiner (9), Sigourney-Keota
Another state qualifier for Sigourney-Keota in 2025 was Greiner, a freshman who made it to state with 17 wins.
After getting into the state tournament with a second-place finish in the regionals, Greiner ended her run at 0-2.
170: Samantha Lyons (10), Fairfield
Fairfield’s Lyons had a historic run through the Class 1A, 170-pound bracket this winter. After winning over 30 matches before state even began, the Trojan sophomore notched the best state performance in Fairfield girls wrestling history.
Lyons knocked off the top seed in the quarterfinals, allowing her to battle all the way into the third place match, where she would fall, but her fourth place finish at state put her in the Trojang girls wrestling history books.
190: Jada Moats (10), Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union
The lone state representative for Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union this winter was a WMU student in Moats, a sophomore.
Moats finished second in the Class 1A, 190-pound bracket at Williamsburg, earning herself a spot at the state meet. At state, Moats went 0-2, falling by pin fall in both matches.
235: Kendra Allison (11), Fairfield
One of two Fairfield state qualifiers was Allison, a junior who made her debut on the big stage this winter.
Allison won over 20 matches this year, including a pin fall in her second match at the state meet. She finished 1-2 in the Class 1A 235 pound bracket.
