Sigourney-Keota junior Reanah Utterback is one of 15 girls wrestlers in the Dan Gable Ms. Wrestler of the Year vote. The annual award is one of four that goes to the best male and female wrestlers in the state of Iowa.
Utterback, a multi-time state qualifier who chose to keep wrestling against the boys last season, has been absolutely dominant on the girls’ side this winter. Utterback is 29-0 overall on the year.
Dan Gable Mr. Wrestler of the Year awards go to one wrestler in each of the three classes in Iowa. The Ms. Wrestler of the Year award goes to one girl.
The Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) runs the contest. The IWCOA accepted nominations from high school coaches for student athletes in each of the three state wrestling classes for the men and combined all classes for the women’s award, regardless of their year in school and weight class. A committee selected by the IWCOA recently provided IAwrestle with a list of 15 finalist candidates for public input.
Fans have the ability to vote once per day at IAwrestle.com for their top wrestler in each category until Jan. 19 at noon (CT), when it will be narrowed down to the top 7.
The next round of voting will go from Jan. 22 to Feb. 5. After another round, the winner will be announced at the Fareway Conference Center in Boone on Feb. 28 at noon.
