Valdez hat trick puts wind in Columbus’ sails
Wildcats take down Central Lee in girls soccer

DONNELLSON — Juvixa Valdez found the back of the net three times in the first half as Columbus won a girls soccer match with five first half goals Tuesday on the road in a 5-2 win over Central Lee.
Valdez also had an assist. Odalyz Valdez contributed an assist and scored a goal. Aaliyah Santos notched a score as well.
Alynna Leos made 11 saves for Columbus.
Columbus improves its record to 5-3 while Central Lee falls to 4-5.
Regals blank Golden Hawks
IOWA CITY — The Mid-Prairie girls soccer team couldn’t find the back of the net against Iowa City Regina.
The Golden Hawks lost 3-0 to the Regals, who have a 5-3 record. Mid-Prairie is 7-4.
Regina led 2-0 at halftime.
Emily Swartzentruber had seven saves. Mid-Prairie had 10 shots, four on goal.
Wildcats get road win
DONNELLSON — Columbus (6-4) won a boys match 3-1, pulling away from a halftime 1-1 tie with Central Lee (2-5).
Highland falls to Indians
WAPELLO — Highland very nearly won its first soccer match this year, and its opponent, Wapello, won for the first time with the 5-4 score.
The Huskies equaled their season high of four goals with two in each half. Wapello led at the break 3-2.
