Van Buren boys place second in Donnellson

DONNELLSON ? Seth Dickinson, Thomas Fitzsimmons and a close pack of Warriors behind them raced to a runner-up team finish at the Central Lee Invitational at Green Acres Country Club in Donnellson.

The Warrior boys had one of their best meets of the season, scoring 105 points in the 10-team field. Mediapolis won the meet with 28.

Dickinson was 10th (17:04) and Fitzsimmons took 18th place (17:26) to once again lead the Warriors. A close group of runners ? Dalton Haynes (24th, 17:56), Tyler Runyon (25th, 17:59) and Drew Nolting (28th, 18:06) ? rounded out the team score.

Levi Rupe finished 33rd overall for Cardinal (18:32).

In the girls? race, the Comets finished fourth while Van Buren was without top runner Unity Daugherty and fell to fifth place. Mediapolis also won the girls event with 33 points.

Lindsay Albert paced the Comet girls with a 12th-place finish in 17:02. Lexi Engle was 21st (18:08) and Lindsey Davis finished 28th overall (19:20). Allison Metcalf also broke the 20-minute barrier with a 30th-place finish (19:34).

Van Buren freshman Sydney Atwood stepped in to lead in Daugherty?s absence and ended up 18th overall in 17:48, and teammate Caitlyn Millard was five spots behind in 23rd (18:26).

The Warriors have one more meet ? Thursday at Waterworks Park in Fairfield ? before joining back up with Cardinal for the state-qualifying race at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa Oct. 18.
