FORT MADISON — The Van Buren County Warriors are Southeast Iowa Super Conference champions.
The Warrior boys’ golf team earned that honor in flying colors on Wednesday with an 18-stroke win at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.
Van Buren County shot 352 on the day, 18 strokes better than second-place West Burlington-Notre Dame.
The Warriors were the only team with multiple scores under 90. They had three.
Clayton Bruckman was second place overall with an 82 to lead the team to victory.
“I left a lot of birdie putts out there, but I saved a lot of par putts,” Bruckman said. “I was just trying to shoot the best I could.”
Riley Bruckman shot an 88, and Lukas McEntee shot 89 to give the Warriors two more first-team All-SEISC honors. T.J. Jirak shot 93. Anthony Duncan scored 98, and Dylan Richardson ended at 105.
Nobody could catch New London’s Clayton Phillips. He was the only golfer on the course under 80, shooting a 78 to win the meet by four strokes.
“It feels good, and I'm happy we're actually having a season this year,” Phillips said. “There aren't really any COVID restrictions or anything, so it feels just like normal golf.”
The rest of the New London scorers all dipped just under 100. Wyatt Miller shot a 97, and both Mason Shelledy and Ethan Streeter ended at 99.
Weston Miller was the fifth-best New London golfer, scoring 119. Dustin Nehrins shot 121.
The Tigers finished third overall with a shot total of 373. Winfield-Mount Union was right behind them, at 376.
WMU’s Brady Loyd narrowly made first-team All-SEISC with a final shot total of 88. Bryce Wade shot 94. Jacob Kongable and Carter Loyd each finished at 97. Seth Schurr shot 101, and Isaac Schurr ended his day at 104.
Hillcrest Academy shot a 403, for sixth. Landon Schrock led the Ravens with a 94. Jace Rempel shot 98. Luke Schrock finished at 100. Josiah Beachy scored 111, and Alex Niemeyer shot 122.
Highland’s quartet shot 444 to finish 10th. Jamison Kasparck led the way with 96. Peyton Yeggy shot 101. Brock Schaedler ended at 113, and Isaac Black shot 134.
