Van Buren County outslugs Fairfield
Warriors prevail in high-scoring season opener

KEOSAUQUA — Runs were flying onto the scoreboard on Monday night when Fairfield traveled to Van Buren County for the softball season opener.
The Warriors hit double digits against the visiting Trojans, beating Fairfield 10-6.
The game was already 3-3 after two innings, but Van Buren County busted out five more runs in the third to make it 8-3.
Fairfield scored three runs in the sixth to put the pressure on the Warriors, with the score 8-6, but Van Buren County added two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning.
Ivy Davidson went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead Van Buren County. Callie Kracht and Jade Balmer each collected a pair of hits. Kylee Roan and Lexee Fritz each had an RBI, and both Kracht and Ashlynn Huff scored three runs.
Ally Cambell threw all seven innings for the Warriors. She gave up six runs (two earned) on 10 hits, while striking out seven batters.
Despite the loss, Savannah Hollander had a monster day for the Trojans, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and all five of Fairfield’s RBIs. Emmelia Miller was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Fairfield’s Claire Thompson and Laney Norris each saw time on the mound. Thompson gave up three earned runs over five frames, while Norris gave up seven runs (five earned) over two, and was tagged with the loss.
Both the Warriors and Trojans will be back in action on Thursday. Van Buren County will host Wapello, and Fairfield will host Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a doubleheader.
