Van Buren County softball runs past Columbus

COLUMBUS - Van Buren County out-hit Columbus 12-2 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover softball game on Monday. The Warriors raced away with an 8-0 victory.
Van Buren County led from start to finish. The Warriors put up a run each in the first and second inning, added five in the third and one more in the fifth.
VBC’s sophomore duo of Annabell Cormier and Ally Cambell co-led the Warriors at the plate. Both Cormier and Cambell finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Chelsey Huff, Tessa Sayer and Callie Kracht all had RBIs for the Warriors in the win. Huff was also deadly in the circle, giving up just two hits and five walks, while striking out 12 batters.
Columbus had two hits on the day. Jocelyn Fulton finished 1-for-2 with a double, and Sera Vela was 1-for-1.
Libby White was tagged with the loss for Columbus. She gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out one batter over 2.2 innings. Lily Coli gave up one earned run on five hits and one walk, while striking out three. Coli struck out three.
