WEST BURLINGTON — Van Buren County basketball saw victory and defeat on Tuesday night in West Burlington.
The Warriors picked up a down to the wire comeback win on the girls’ side of things, 37-34, but were defeated on the boys’ 90-40.
In the girls’ game, it was the Falcons who controlled early on, 39-30. West Burlington outscored the Warriors 13-10 and 13-5 through the first two periods.
Van Buren County, who gave West Burlington its only win of the season in December didn’t give up as the Warriors put together a dominant defensive second half.
The Warriors gave up just seven points to the Warriors in the second half, which included just two points in the fourth quarter.
On the contrary, Van Buren County dropped in a game-high 18 points in the third quarter and four more in the fourth to win it.
Ivy Davison scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down 10 boards in the win. Sophia Jirak followed with 12 points and six assists. Callie Kracht notched three points and six rebounds.
The Warriors amassed 20 steals in the victory as well as they move to 4-8.
On the boys’ side, West Burlington jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but Van Buren County stayed right with the undefeated Falcons early. A Lucas Fett three and baseline drive cut it to 8-5.
After that, West Burlington took over. The Falcons continually sought to get the ball on the block and it paid off. That tactic turned into a 23-3 run for the Falcons and Van Buren County could never get it back.
Van Buren County drops to 2-10 with the loss.
