Van Buren County’s Huff garners Super Conferece POY honor
Pitcher shares billing with WBND’s Summers

Chelsey Huff led Class 2A in hitting last softball season. This season she garnered quite an honor when the Southeast Iowa Super Conference picked its softball teams for all-division honors.
Huff, of Van Buren County, was picked as Player of the Year for the Super Conference South Division team, sharing the honor with fellow pitcher West Burlington/Notre Dame’s Lauren Summers. Summers (26, 1.04, 247) and Huff (14, 1.16, 165) were first and second in wins, earned run average and strikeouts. Huff was first in opponents’ batting average at .159, Summers second at .177.
Huff’s batting average of .506 was third in the South and her five home runs tied for second with Summers and teammate Ally Campbell. WB/ND’s Logan Kelley was first with 17 and first in RBI at 51. Huff was second with 36. Huff and Summers tied for second in total bases at 73. Huff was second in slugging percentage at .880. Huff had the most sacrifice flies and was second in strikeouts, fanning just four times.
Two of Huff’s teammates — Isabel Manning and Ivy Davidson — were unanimous choices for the South Division team. Manning’s .441 batting average was sixth in the South. Davidson’s was .383.
Cardinal’s Emma Becker led the South in stolen bases with 21 and teammate Alexia McClure tied for third. Both were first team picks in the South as was Nicoa McClure (fourth in ERA, third in strikeouts at 88) and Brinlee Ostrander, who was one of seven players with two errors or less.
New London’s Elly Manning made first team as a utility pick. Her batting average of .422 was ninth and opponents batting average of. .249 was fourth.
In the North, Winfield-Mount Union’s Madie Anderson was unanimous as was Emma Milder of Columbus and Highland’s Sarah Burton. Burton was second in hits at 39 and runs at 40.
Anderson was led the North in opponents batting average (. 114), ERA (0.58), wins (17), innings pitched (157), and WHIP (0.57). Burton was first in the North with 29 stolen bases and Milder third at 24.
Highland placed the battery combination of Grace Batcheller and Abbi Stransky on the first team, pitcher Jessica Kraus and outfielder Katelyn Waters. Batcheller was second in wins, third in strikeouts (105) and fourth in ERA at 2.27, behind Kraus in third at 1.71. Stransky was fourth in RBIs with 24. Waters tied for first in the North in sacrifice bunts.
Madeline Fox of Hillcrest, Jobey Malone of WMU and Lily Coil of Columbus landed on the first team for the North. Malone was sixth in the North with a batting average of .446 and Fox was 11th at .415. Coil was second in stolen bases (25), third in hits (36), slugging percentage at .705 and total bases at 55.
