ELDON -- Things were looking bleak for Cardinal after a half on Monday night against Van Buren County, but the Comets never gave up against the Warriors.
The Comets stormed back in the second half to make it come down to the final shot, but the Warriors were able to escape with a 43-40 victory.
For Van Buren, it was a stellar first half and by the end of it the Warriors held a double digit lead.
The Warriors jumped out to a 13-5 lead after one quarter of action and after a 10-8 second, Van Buren led 23-13 at the break.
Cardinal never wavered despite the deficit. The Comets turned it around in the second half, taking the third quarter 13-6, which cut the game to just three, 29-26 heading into the final quarter of action.
In the fourth, neither team gained an edge on the other as the Warriors and Comets finished the game out knotted up at 14-14, pushing Van Buren to the slim three point victory.
Annabelle Cormier finished with 14 points for the Warriors. Ivy Davison added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sydney Meierotto followed with eight.
Van Buren County improves to 4-9 with the win, while Cardinal moves to 1-12.
