KEOSAUQUA ? Van Buren?s Makenzie Zeitler and Hanna Haynes scored more than enough points to beat West Burlington Tuesday.
The duo combined for 52 points ? seven more than West Burlington?s entire team ? and the Warriors topped West Burlington 56-45 in Keosauqua.
?That?s a big one because now we?ve beat the top three teams in the conference,? said Van Buren head coach Matt Zeitler, alluding to previous wins over Burlington-Notre Dame and Central Lee.
Zeitler scored 28 points to become just the fifth female player in Van Buren?s history to top the 1,000 career points mark and Hanna Haynes added 24 to lead the Warriors. Zeitler?s career total now sits at 1,005 points.
Payten Hughes was the only other Van Buren player to score, adding four points Tuesday. As a team, Van Buren shot nearly 58 percent from the field.
The Warriors trailed early, as West Burlington went up 15-13 after one quarter. Van Buren took a 29-27 lead at halftime before breaking the game wide open in the third period at 46-34.
Although kept off the scoreboard, Jessica Saunders tallied nine assists and two steals. Haynes also had 14 boards, seven blocked shots and five steals, while Zeitler grabbed 13 rebounds and four steals.
The Warriors (8-1, 7-0 SEISC south) travel to Cardinal Jan. 6.
