Van Buren football shut out at Sigourney-Keota
Cobras strike quick in 35-0 1st quarter

SIGOURNEY — The Cobras have completed their second consecutive undefeated football regular season with a Class 1A District 6 victory Friday on Senior Night.
Sigourney-Keota scored five touchdowns in the first quarter against Van Buren County and two more before halftime to win 49-0. All were rushing scores as the Cobras had 350 yards rushing and six passing.
Jackson Droz, Zach Smithart, Anthony Westendorf, Aidan Schuster, Dominic Bensmiller, Conner Reed, Cade Streigle, Bo Schmidt, Evan Dawson, Ethan Shifflett, Colten Clarahan, Levi Crawford, and Cade Molyneux are Cobra seniors.
Molyneux led 10 different running backs with 10 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Clarahan ran the ball twice, once for a 58-yard touchdown, once for 11 yards. Cole Clarahan had five rushes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Crawford had one carry that went for 26 yards and a score.
Van Buren County ends the year at 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the district. Sigourney-Keota, 8-0 and 5-0, hosts a familiar foe in the first round of the 1A playoffs.
Durant (2-6) and Nolan DeLong (203 carries for 1,480 yards, 17 touchdowns) will visit Friday. The Cobras needed three field goals and 10 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Durant 23-20 in the first game this season.
