FARMINGTON ? Van Buren?s six-game slide came to an end with a much-needed 12-0 victory over Harmony in Southeast Iowa Superconference softball Monday.
?Tonight was one of those nights where we needed to stop the bleeding, and the girls came out ready to go,? said Van Buren head coach Eric Speer.
Sophomore Alicia Fitzsimmons punched out a career-high 12 in the six-inning shutout, including the first six batters faced, to help the Warriors complete a season sweep of their intra-county rivals. Fitzsimmons gave up just two hits and walked five.
From the plate, Makenzie Zeitler was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three runs scored. Jordan Billups finished 2 for 3 with three RBI and three runs, and Caitlyn Millard was 2 for 4 and crossed home plate once.
Van Buren (7-9, 5-4 SEISC south) hosts Danville today.
