Van Buren teams sail past New London

KEOSAUQUA ? Another game in the books, and another impressive stat line from Van Buren?s inside-outside duo of Hanna Haynes and Makenzie Zeitler.
Both girls contributed in several major statistical categories Tuesday to lead the 12th-ranked (Class 2A) Van Buren girls to a dominant 63-18 win over New London in Keosauqua.
Zeitler neared another triple-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals and five assists, while Haynes had 21 points, 14 boards, seven steals and five blocks.
Despite the dominant performance by his two most decorated players, Van Buren head coach Matt Zeitler was happy with the all-around effort, praising the Warriors for their veteran play.
?A lot of kids got shots, and that?s what we want to do ? get those kids some playing time,? said Zeitler.
All but one Warrior on the girls? roster played the entire four quarters, with Jessica Saunders adding to the total with 11 points and six rebounds, and freshman Shayla Filson and junior Jordan Billups adding four points each.
Next up for Van Buren (6-0, 6-0 SEISC south) is a home contest vs. Fairfield on Friday night.

Boys: Van Buren 83, New London 33
KEOSAUQUA ? The Van Buren boys, coming off a 13-point loss to Central Lee Friday, picked up the intensity Tuesday and buried conference rival New London 83-33.
Led by Elliott Remick?s 26 points and Colin Weaver?s 22, Van Buren jumped out to a quick 34-6 lead after one quarter and held the double-digit lead for the game?s remainder. The Warriors took a 46-15 halftime lead.
?I thought we came out and played with a little more intensity, perhaps much more intensity than the previous game,? said Van Buren head coach Fred Parsons.
Blake Scott added to the final score with seven points followed by Corbin Kisling with six and Ryan Nelson with 5. Dalton Stine, Garrett Saunders and Calvin Martens had four points apiece, while Zach Boyd and Pedrick Garrett had three and two points, respectively. Scott dished out five assists and Boyd added four.
Van Buren is at Maharishi School on Friday.
