Van Buren tops team standings at Fairfield
Warriors finish first in meet featuring fellow area squads Fairfield and Pekin

FAIRFIELD — It was a perfect night in Fairfield on Tuesday as the Trojans held their annual boys track meet.
The nine team field featured area schools Van Buren County and Pekin along with the Trojans.
For Van Buren County it was a great night of competition as the Warriors finished at the top of the team standings with a 120 points.
Fairfield finished fourth in the meet with 91 points and Pekin ended in eighth with 55.
Burlington, Oskaloosa, Fort Madison, Pella, Central Lee and Keokuk also took part in the meet.
Van Buren County had a total of two wins on the day.
Anthony Duncan won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.95. Teammate Dominic Meierotto followed in fourth with a 24.75.
Wyatt Mertens picked up the Warriors second victory. Mertens jumped 21.02.00 feet for the title in long jump.
Lincoln Bainbridge was the second highest finisher for the Warriors. Bainbridge finished second in the 3200-meters with a time of 10:46.14.
Van Buren’s sprint medley also picked up a second-place finish with a time of 1:54.59.
The Warriors also grabbed four third-place finishes.
Bainbridge took third in the 400-meter with a time of 54.08. He also took third in the 1600-meter after clocking a time of 4:47.42.
Korbin Camp was a third-place finisher in the 800-meter with a time of 2:08.30.
Tyler Stoltz was another third-place finisher in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.80.
The Warriors took fourth in the 4x200 and fifth in the 4x400 as well.
For Fairfield, Eli Zillman was the lone winner.
Zillman jumped six foot even for the top spot. Teammate Ryan Giberson followed with a fifth-place finish after clearing five feet, eight inches.
The Trojan’s 4x100 took second after clocking a 50.06.
Dylan Adam was a third-place finisher in the 400-meter hurdles after running a 1:01.00.
Caden Allison was a third-place finisher in discus with a throw of 120.03 feet. Calvin McLain followed in fifth with 116.05 feet.
The Trojans sprint and distance medley both finished third with times of 1:56.45 and 4:13.89
Picking up a fourth-place was Dayton Mauck in the 3200-meter with a time of 11:21.56.
Mauck also took fifth in the 800-meter after posting a 2:21.44.
Ryan Higgins was a fourth-place finisher in the 400-meter after dashing to a time of 55.89.
Also a fifth-place finisher was Tallon Bates in the 100-meter with a 11.84.
For Pekin, JaeDon Wolver and Brady McWhirter were two winners.
Wolver took the top time in the 400-meter hurdles after clocking a 59.01.
McWhirter finished first in the 3200-meter after ending with a time of 10:32.42.
In the 1600-meter, McWhirter was one spot off another first-place finish.
McWhirter finished second with a time of 4:47.42.
