For the second straight week, the Warriors play a tough conference foe and a victory could catapult Van Buren into the playoff discussion.
The Warriors go into Lone Tree fresh off a great week of practice and preparation.
?Practice has went well this week,? coach Mike Hurley said. ?We went back to the fundamentals of tackling in hopes to improve ourselves in that area.?
Garrett Saunders and the Warriors offense will compete against a defense that has only given up 44 points over the last three games.
Lone Tree won those three games, which is how it finds itself second in the district standings.
Van Buren will have to contain sophomore running back Jared Hudson and quarterback Nick Viner if they?re going to defeat Lone Tree.
?We hope to get back on the winning track,? said Hurley. ?But Lone Tree will be tough.?
District Look
Class A District 5 is still up for grabs, but it certainly looks like Lisbon is in the driver?s seat. Lisbon?s last two games are against Lone Tree and Highland, so the Lions control their own destiny. Danville and WACO both have the chance to climb back into the district mix with Friday night wins.
