Van Buren wins home invitational
KEOSAUQUA ? In front of its home crowd Thursday, the Van Buren boys? track and field team came away as the night?s big winner.
The Warriors finished more than 50 points above second-place Highland while scoring a meet-high 155 points in Class A action. Highland scored 103 points and Harmony was third with 74.
In all, the Warriors won six events; four were individual events and two were from relays.

The Warriors finished more than 50 points above second-place Highland while scoring a meet-high 155 points in Class A action. Highland scored 103 points and Harmony was third with 74.
In all, the Warriors won six events; four were individual events and two were from relays.
Leading the effort was senior Elliott Remick, who took first place in both the long jump (18? 8 1/4?) and 110-high hurdles (17.00). He was also on the first-place shuttle hurdle relay, which remained undefeated on the season with a time of 1:14.27. Others on the winning relay were Garrett Saunders, Aaron Heisel and Zach Corman.
Van Buren?s Curtis Thomas won the shot put with a top throw of 38-feet, 6-inches and Austin Gire was the third individual champion with a 100-meter dash time of 11.54 seconds. Levi Sherrod, Wyatt Cole, Brayden Starnes and Fitzsimmons teamed up for a first place finish in the 4x800 relay with a finish of 9:42.23. The relay won by nearly 18 seconds.
Second-place finishes came from Gire in the 200-meter dash (24.12), Garrett Saunders in the 400-hurdles (1:06.40), Carson Schuck in the 400-meter dash (1:01.06), and Corman in the 110-high hurdles (18.78). The 4x100 team of Remick, Saunders, Jesse Fuller and Gire also was second at 48.96 seconds.
The Van Buren boys will be back in action Thursday at Keokuk.
