KEOSAUQUA - In his first start of the year, Van Buren County freshman Lucas Fett didn’t give up a single hit. In fact, he was almost perfect.
Over six innings, Fett not only threw a no-hitter, but also walked nobody and hit nobody. Just one Albia player reached base in a 10-0 Van Buren County victory. The Blue Demons would get their revenge in Game 2, defeating the Warriors 6-1.
Albia’s Grain Grinstead, the seventh hitter in the order, reached on an error to break up Fett’s potential perfect game.
Offensively, Van Buren scored one run in the second inning, one in the third, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Bailey Roen went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Warriors in their Game 1 victory. Wyatt Mertens went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Fett, Taylor Sprouse and Dylan Richardson all knocked one in.
The Warrior offense quelled in Game 2, and Albia’s sluggish start offensively came to an end as well. The Blue Demons scored four runs over the first two innings and never looked back.
Van Buren County is now 10-8 overall this season and 6-2 in conference play. The Warriors will host New London on Thursday night.
