Van P. Meek, 74, of rural Stockport died on Monday, May 29, 2017, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday June 2, 2017, at Pedrick Funeral Home, in Keosauqua, with Rev. Larry Smith officiating, followed by a memorial service by Birmingham Fire Department. Van P. Meek, 74, of rural Stockport died on Monday, May 29, 2017, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday June 2, 2017, at Pedrick Funeral Home, in Keosauqua, with Rev. Larry Smith officiating, followed by a memorial service by Birmingham Fire Department. Visitation will open at 3 p.m., on Thursday, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial with military honors by Haney-Brannan Post will be in Winchester Cemetery, southeast of Birmingham.
Memorials to the Birmingham Fire Department or Birmingham Lions Club may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14500 Osage Avenue, Stockport, Iowa 52651.
Meek was born on March 26, 1943, the son of Harold A. and Rachel Workman Meek, on the family farm. He graduated from Birmingham High School, and attended Northeast Missouri State College, Kirksville. He married Janet Waugh on March 20, 1970, in the Birmingham Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966.
He served on the Birmingham Fire Department and was the Union Township Trustee and clerk.
Meek is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Brian (Ann) Meek, of Plymouth, Ind., and Richard Meek, of Seattle, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
