VBC girls cruise, boys fall

FORT MADISON - It was the tale of two games for the Van Buren County basketball teams on Tuesday night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division doubleheader at Holy Trinity. The girls rolled to their fifth straight win with a 51-41 victory, while the boys dropped their game 63-29.
The VBC girls scored points in bunches in the first quarter. The Warriors grabbed a double-digit lead early on, leading 21-8 after the first eight minutes.
The Warriors were able to hold on to their advantage throughout the rest of the game. VBC led 33-19 at halftime and 41-31 after three quarters.
Isabel Manning continued to shred South Division defenses. She scored 32 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the team to victory.
Zoe Best put up 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting the ball. Kadence Nausbaum finished the night with three points and six steals. Ivy Davidson had three points. Kalynn Tuttle scored two, and Jaelyn Boley had one.
Ella Jirak didn't score for VBC, but she did colead the team with 11 rebounds.
The Warrior boys couldn't find that elusive first win of the season. Holy Trinity ran away with the game, leading 20-6 after one quarter, 30-10 at halftime and 55-18 after three quarters.
Jackson Manning reached double-digits again, putting up 13 points in the loss. Lane Davis added eight.
The VBC girls are now 10-3 overall and 8-2 in conference play. The boys are 0-12 and 9-9. Both teams will host New London on Friday night.
