Volleyball postseason pairings announced

The IGHSAU released the pairings for the high school volleyball postseason tournament, which will begin officially on Oct. 18 this season, when Classes 2A and 1A kick things off.

The Washington volleyball team will hit the road for their first-round Class 4A matchup on Oct. 19, when they take on North Scott in Eldridge.

The 2-17 Demons are on an upswing over the last week, picking up a pair of wins in their last three matches of the season.

North Scott sits at 5-16 on the season, but has won its last two matches, claiming home victories over Burlington and Muscatine.

The winner of Washington/North Scott will take on Clinton (15-10) on the road on Oct. 25. Cedar Rapids Xavier (23-4) headlines the other side of the bracket.

Washington will resume its season on Tuesday night, when they travel to face Mt. Pleasant.

In Class 1A area action, WACO and Keota were both placed in Region 8, with the Warriors hosting Winfield-Mt. Union on Oct. 18.

Keota will travel to take on English Valleys on the same night.

IMS will head to Lone Tree in Region 7 action.

In Class 2A, the 20-9 Highland Huskies were unable to earn a first-round bye, and will face off against Louisa-Muscatine at home, with the winner facing a talented North Cedar squad.

Columbus will take on Wapello, with the winner taking on Tipton.

In Class 3A, Mid-Prairie will be headed to Williamsburg to take on the Raiders, with the winner facing off against the Mount Vernon/Solon contest.
