Volleyball roundup: Mid-Prairie, VBC, WMU all compete in tournament

The Iowa high school volleyball season kicked off last week for a plethora of Union area teams.
While a select few played early in the week, the action really ramped up over the weekend with some early season tournament action.
It was packed full weekend for Van Buren County, Mid-Prairie and Winfield-Mt. Union as the trio all competed in tournaments on Saturday.
Mid-Prairie and Van Buren County both took part in the Central Lee Tournament, while Winfield-Mt. Union headed to West Branch.
For Mid-Prairie it was a very successful weekend of action as the Golden Hawks lost just one match, a 2-0 loss to West Burlington.
The Golden Hawks also notched a 2-0 victory, 21-17 and 21-19.
Other than the two sets lost to West Burlington, the Golden Hawks never dropped another set.
Their other victories came against Van Buren County, 21-16, 21-14; Keokuk, 21-14, 21-12 and Central Lee, 21-13, 21-12.
Mid-Prairie now sits at 5-1 on the season.
As for Van Buren County, the Warriors bowed out after a pair of losses to West Burlington, 21-12 in two sets and Mid-Prairie 21-16, 21-14.
The two loses were the first of the season for VBC. The Warriors currently sit with a 4-2 record on the season.
Winfield-Mt. Union grabbed just one win while competing in the West Branch tournament.
The Wolves opened up with a victory over Prince of Peace in two sets, 21-6, 21-12.
WMU then ran into some tough competition, as they lost three straight matches to Don Bosco, 21-12, 21-15; host West Branch 21-13, 21-9 and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 25-14, 25-16.
The Wolves currently hold a 1-4 record this season.
