Warriors beat Pekin in 5 sets, Mid-Prairie wins ranked battle

With less than one week until opening round play regional volleyball tournaments, the area’s small schools played in-conference opponents on Monday and Tuesday.
Winfield-Mount Union 3, Lone Tree 0
The Wolves swept through a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division battle with Lone Tree. WMU won all three sets by the same score; 25-17.
Freshman Kynlee Buffington tallied 11 kills in the win. Kellee Milks finished the night with nine.
Hillcrest Academy 3, Columbus 0
The Ravens picked up a SEISC North home win against Columbus, winning sets 25-18, 25-22 and 25-18.
Despite the loss, Columbus’ Jessica Del Rio tallied nine kills. Daniela Diaz dished out 23 assists.
WACO 3, Pekin 2
Pekin had WACO down two sets to none, but the Warriors battled back in a thrilling North Division clash.
Pekin won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-15. WACO clawed back to take the final three sets 26-24, 25-20 and 15-8.
Ally Rinner finished the night with nine kills to lead the Warriors. Brenna Graber and Carlee Lunsford each had seven kills. Kinsey Hildebrand dished out 19 assists.
No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 2, West Liberty 1 (Monday)
In Tipton, the Golden Hawks knocked off West Liberty 25-22, 21-25, 15-11.
Callie Huber finished the match with 12 kills for Mid-Prairie. Jovi Evans had 11 kills and 19 assists.
No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 2, No. 10 (3A) Wilton 1 (Monday)
Mid-Prairie took a three-set ranked clash with Wilton, edging the Beavers 29-31, 25-20 and 15-13.
Huber finished with 17 kills for Mid-Prairie. Evans had 16 kills and 23 assists, and Avery Helmuth added 17 assists.
Davis County 3, Cardinal 0
Davis County was too much for the hosting Comets in a South Central Conference clash. The Mustangs walked out three-set winners, taking the match 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.
Brenna Guiter collected eight kills for the omets. Macy Groves had nine assists.
Belle Plaine 3, Keota 0 (Monday)
The Eagles in three sets at Belle Plaine during the South Iowa Cedar League conference tournament. Keota fell 25-8, 25-20 and 25-20.
Keota 3, Colfax-Mingo 2 (Monday)
The Eagles won a five-set nail-biter against Colfax-Mingo during the SICL tournament. Keota pulled out a wild one, winning 28-26, 12-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-13.
