Oct. 25, 2018 1:09 am
The best coaches do more than just coach, they connect to the good in their players and inspire their communities.
Washington's Steve Roth is just such a coach and he has been honored by U.S. Cellular after having been voted in the top 15 nationwide in the Most Valuable Coach contest.
'From elementary school to high school, the Most Valuable Coaches are the bright lights that bring communities together with meaningful connections,” the U.S. Cellular web site states. 'U.S. Cellular empowers their efforts by connecting these coaches to the resources they need to shine even brighter.”
Roth is still in the running to finish in the top three, so everyone is encouraged to vote daily at www.themostvaluablecoach.com.
The public can vote through 11:59 a.m. Nov. 13 and the three winning coaches will receive a donation of $50,000, $20,000 and $10,000, respectively, to help their school. The first-place coach will also be awarded with a Samsung tech prize package, valued at $30,000, for their school. The winning coaches will be announced Nov. 20.
The finalists will be showcased in a video on themostvaluablecoach.com and voting will take place there.
U.S. Cellular's Most Valuable Coach program began Aug. 21 and gave people the opportunity to honor current coaches of K-12 school-affiliated sports teams who inspire their players through leadership and community involvement.
There were over 1,000 coaches nominated.
A panel of judges featuring Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb and WNBA all-star Maya Moore, along with the online voting, will help determine the three winning coaches
