W-MU baseball falls at home

WINFIELD -It was a tight game through five innings on Thursday in Winfield but nine runs over the final two frames helped Lone Tree pull away late, 13-6.

The Lions jumped on the Wolves early, scoring two runs in the first inning, but W-MU starter Christian Gerot was able to hold Lone Tree scoreless during the next three innings. W-MU scored a run in the bottom of the third, and after four full frames, it was a one-run game, at 2-1.

Lone Tree gained two more runs in the top of the fifth. W-MU scored one in the bottom half to cut it to 4-2.

The Lions busted the game open in the sixth and seventh, tallying nine runs over those two frames.

W-MU batted around in the seventh and scored four runs before Lone Tree finally got their third out to close out the game.

The Wolves were led by Nick Crow, who went 2-3 with three RBIs. Gerot went 2-5 with an RBI, and both Jarod Arnod and Nick Davis went 1-3 with an RBI.

Gerot threw five and one-thirds innings, giving up six earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four batters in the loss.

W-MU (0-6) will play at Danville tonight (Friday) in an SEISC cross-over.
