W-MU boys win first game

COLUMBUS - The Winfield-Mt. Union boys are finally in the winner's circle. The Wolves picked up a road win at Columbus Community on Friday night, beating the Wildcats 46-34 to earn their first win of the season and also get some revenge on a 53-29 loss earlier this season.
The win was aided by a huge start to the game. W-MU jump all over Columbus early, outscoring the Wildcats 22-6 in the first quarter. The Wolves' lead stayed at 16 points at halftime, where W-MU led 36-20.
Just nince total points were scored int he third quarter. Columbus cut the lead by one point, at 40-25, but W-MU was still comfortably ahead.
Columbus was able to cut into the lead a little more in the fourth quarter, but could never get back within striking distance, and W-MU walked out with a 12-point win.
The Wolves' scoring was relatively balanced, with three players hitting double digits. Jared Arnold led the way with 12 points. Ty Yocum had 11, and Daunte Oepping scored 10.
Christian Gerot put up seven points in the win. Graham Hagge and Dawson Bergthold had three.
The girls' team preceded that with a blowout win of their own. The Lady Wolves knocked off the Wildcats 57-26.
The girls' game was a lot like the boys' game. W-MU dominated the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Wolves won the first quarter 22-7 and led 35-14 at the half.
W-MU continued to pour on points in the third quarter, dropping 20 in the period to take a 55-22 lead after three. Six total points were scored in the fourth period.
Liana Sweezer scored 14 points in the win to lead the way. Kyndal Townsley had 12 points. Jenna Buffington finished the night with 11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Jami Wilkerson scored 10 points in the win. Farrah Nelson had six, and Jobey Malone ended the day with four.
