LETTS - The Winfield-Mt. Union boys played another close game against Louisa-Muscatine on Thursday night, but once again, the Falcons eked out a single-digit win. After beating the Wolves 77-70 in overtime earlier this season, the Falcons knocked off W-MU 59-50 in their second matchup of the year.
W-MU held a 14-12 lead after one quarter but a rough offensive stretch put the Wolves in a halftime hole. L&M outscored W-MU 15-4 in the second quarter and led 27-18 at the break.
W-MU cut the Falcons' lead to five points after the third quarter. The Wolves took the third quarter 18-14 and it was a tight one, 41-36, after three quarters.
The Wolves put another 14 points in the fourth quarter, but L&M had their best offensive output of the day, putting up 18 points in the final eight minutes to hang on.
Ty Yocum led the Wolves with 16 points in the win. Jared Arnold had 12. Christian Gerot and Daunte Oepping scored eight points apiece, and both Graham Hagge and Juanito Piper scored three.
W-MU fell to 1-14 on the year. They'll be at home tonight (Friday) when they host Central Lee in the SEISC Shootout.
