W-MU golf takes SEISC title

FT. MADISON - The Winfield-Mt. Union boys' golf team took care of business on Monday, taking home the Southeast Iowa Super Conference championship at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Ft. Madison. The Wolves shot a 345, which helped them edge second-place Van Buren by one point. New London finished third place, shooting a 348.
W-MU was led by Nolan Ross, who took third place overall with a score of 79. He shot a 40 on his front nine and a 39 on his second nine to finish top three. Jarod Kadel took fifth, shooting 42 on his front nine and 41 on his second.
Graham Hagge took 10th overall, shooting an 86. Hagge shot 43 on both the front nad back nine. Noah Freeman took 29th overall with a 97, putting up a 50 on his front nine and a 47 on the back.
Jacob Kongable finished just outside of the top four for W-MU, shooting a 99 (49, 50). He took 33rd overall. Brady Loyd took 36th, shooting a 100 (48, 52).
Clayton Phillips finished just one shot out of first place for New London. He shot a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the second to take second place with a 77. Notre Dame-West Burlington's Matt Briggs edged Phillips for first, with a 76.
Gabe Carter didn't finish far off the leaders. He shot 42 on the front and 40 on the back for a fourth-place 82. Tyler Henecke finished 22nd overall, shooting a 94 (44, 50). Ethan Streeter was the fourth New London scorer, shooting a 95 (46, 49) to finish 27th overall.
Dustin Nehring shot a 52 on the front and a 51 on the back to take 41st overall. Wyatt Haes shot a 56 ont he front and a 54 on the back for a 50th-place 110.
The SEISC girls' tournament is scheduled for today (Wednesday) in Ft. Madison after previously being pushed back, but that meet will depend on the conditions.
