W-MU season ended at Notre Dame

BURLINGTON - It was an uphill battle on Tuesady night for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls basketball team, going into No. 11 Notre Dame in their Class 1A Regional quarterfinal. The Wolves were knocked out 71-25, ending their 2019-20 season.
Notre Dame led 16-5 after the first period, 29-14 at halftime and 53-19 after three periods. The Wolves were unable to put up any double-digit quarters in the loss.
Keetyn Townsley led the team with eight points. Farrah Nelson had six. Bradie Buffington scored five.
Jobey Malone finished with two points and six rebounds. Anna Anderson had two poitns. Ali Cockerham and Melina Oepping scored oen apiece.
Jami Wilkerson didn't score on the night, but did lead the team with three assists.
W-MU finished the season 12-11 overall. The Lady Wolves have plenty to look forward to next season as everyone is expected back, with the current squad sporting zero seniors. Next year should also see the return of Jenna Buffington, a junior who led the team in scoring last season before going down with an injury during volleyball season and missing the 2019-2020 campaign.
Notre Dame moved on to play Lone Tree in the regional semifinals. No. 2 Marquette Catholic and Calamus-Wheatland will play in the other semifinal.
