WINFIELD - The Winfield-Mt. Union team didn't pass one time in their season-opening win against Tri-County, and they didn't need to. Noah Sparrow's big night rushing helped the Wolves dominate the Trojans 44-8.
Sparrow scored the first touchdown of the game, scoring on a 46-yard run. Abram Edwards ran it in for two to make it 8-0, but the Trojans punched right back with eight points of their own to tie it up.
After Tri-County's only score of the night, Caleb Faler took the ensuing kickoff to the house. Faler returned the kick 70 yards to the end zone, and Sparrow's two point conversion made it 16-8.
Caleb Giese scored three touchdowns for W-MU in the second quarter to help give the Wolves a 36-8 at halftime. Sparrow scored the last touchdown of the game on a one-yard run in the third quarter.
Sparrow ran for 184 yards and two scores to lead the Wolves. Giese finished the game with 40 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
The Wolves' defense was dominant, holding Tri-County to just 190 total yards and eight points. Chance Malone's 8.5 tackles led the way.
W-MU will look to move to 2-0 next week with a road game at Montezuma.
