WACO 4th quarter results in victory

Despite trailing at the end of each of the first three quarters, the WACO girls basketball team secured a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division victory Tuesday.
The Warriors scored more points in the fourth quarter (24) than the first three quarters (22) combined.
Pekin 50, Highland 39
The home team led 12-6 after a quarter, 18-11 after two and 30-21 after three in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division win.
Aly Stokes had 19 points in the loss.
Highland is 12-4 overall and 9-3 in the North. The Huskies play at Danville tonight.
Wapello 50, Columbus 8
Jobie Lekwa, Taylor Howell, Lizbeth Paz and Ingrid Montero each scored in the North Division road loss.
Columbus plays host to Winfield-Mt. Union Friday.
Mediapolis 78, Iowa Mennonite School 42
The visitors led this North Division game 12-11 after the first quarter but trailed 42-18 at halftime.
Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 28 points, three steals, two assists and six rebounds. Rubye Ney added six points and pulled down nine rebounds.
IMS is 7-7, 5-6 and hosts Pekin tonight.
Sigourney 40, Keota 26
The visitors took a 9-6 lead after the first quarter and upped it to 25-17 at the half. Sigourney shut out the home team, 7-0, in the third quarter of the South Iowa Cedar League game.
Keota is 6-11, 4-6 SICL and plays at BGM tonight.
WACO 46, Cardinal 43
The Warriors trailed the visitors 10-5 after one quarter of play and 19-14 at halftime. It was still a 26-22 deficit starting the final period of play.
Clara Schmitz scored eight of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter. WACO teammate Nadiyah Brown notched half of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. Aubri Garnsey had half of her eight points in the fourth.
WACO is 5-11, 3-8 and plays at No. 7 (Class 3A) Central Lee Friday.
