WACO basketball teams split pair of games with Columbus
WAYLAND ? The WACO basketball teams hosted Columbus on Tuesday night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup, with the girls dropping their contest by a score of 45-31 before the boys took the floor for a win over the Wildcats, 51-35.
In the girls? game, WACO kept the score close through the first half, going into the third quarter down only 20-16.

WAYLAND ? The WACO basketball teams hosted Columbus on Tuesday night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup, with the girls dropping their contest by a score of 45-31 before the boys took the floor for a win over the Wildcats, 51-35.
In the girls? game, WACO kept the score close through the first half, going into the third quarter down only 20-16.
In the second half, however, Columbus made an early 7-0 run to open up the game and stayed on top of the Warriors through the final minutes of play to seal the win.
Ashley Sutton and Erika Leichty had six points each in the loss.
After a seven-game skid, the WACO girls are now 6-13 on the season.
In the boys? game, WACO took the lead first and held it throughout all four quarters for the win.
The Warriors led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter, 23-18 at the half and 39-27 at the end of the third quarter.
Tyler Ayers led the scoring with 13 points, followed by Justin Freyenberger with 10 points. Aaron Barnhart came of the bench to add 10 points of his own.
The Warriors are now 11-7 on the season.
Both of the WACO teams will take the floor again on Thursday when they travel to Mediapolis.
