WACO boys blow out Van Buren, Sigourney

WAYLAND -- The WACO boys' basketball team has started off 2019 with a couple of runaway victories. The Warriors blasted Van Buren 54-39 on Friday night and crushed Sigourney 67-26 on Monday.
In Friday's conference win over Van Buren, the Warriors led 14-6 after the first period and 27-11 at halftime. WACO continued to pull away in the third quarter, taking a 40-19 advantage, but Van Buren was able to save a little face with a 20-point fourth quarter.
Matthew Leichty led the Warriors with 13 points in the win. Nik Coble had 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots, and Colton Horak had 10 points, four assists and three steals.
Drew Kissell scored nine points in the win, and also led the team with six assists. Braden Hammond had four points. Elijah McGohan and Dalton Diers scored two each, and both Will Edeker and Kolton Connelly finished with one.
The Warriors continued to roll on Monday, jumping out to a 19-7 first quarter lead against Sigourney. WACO led Sigourney 34-12 at the half and 60-17 after three quarters, before splitting the fourth quarter 10-10.
Coble had 23 points in the win over Sigourney. Kissell had 13. McGohan scored seven. Hammond finished with six. Edeker scored five. Horak and Desmond Beam scored four apiece. Leichty had three, and Connelly ended the night with two.
