WACO boys keep rolling

WAYLAND - It was business as usual for the third-ranked WACO boys basketball team on Friday night. The used a 24-point second quarter to pound Central Lee 63-47 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division play. The WACO girls had a vallant effort but fell 56-40.
WACO's boys led 14-11 after one quarter, 38-16 at halftime and 56-30 after three quarters. Central Lee was able to put up 17 points in the fourth quarter to cut the WACO lead back down below 20.
Nik Coble was on as usual, finishing the night with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Braden Hammond had 11 points, and Pietro Vannini went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, 1-for-1 from 3-point ladn and 1-for-1 from the free throw line to finish with 10.
Gabe Reichenbach scored eight points in the win. Drew Kissell had seven points and eight assists. Eljiah McGohan and Will Edeker scored three points apiece, and Kolton Connelly had two.
The WACO girls had a great firs thalf, leading 25-24 at the break, but a tough Central Lee team was able to rally to avoid the upset bid. The Hawks outscored the Warriors 21-11 in the third quarter and 32-15 in the fourth to hand WACO a home loss.
The WACO boys are a perfect 15-0. The girls are 3-13. The Warriors will play Danville on the road on Tuesday night.
