WACO boys win, girls lose
Warriors split home games against Lone Tree

WAYLAND — The WACO basketball teams went toe-to-toe with Lone Tree on Tuesday night. The Warrior boys came away with a 74-49 win, while the girls battled but fell 49-39.
The WACO boys won their fourth game in a row, all in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North play. The Warriors led 21-12 after one quarter, 37-23 at halftime and 63-32 after three periods.
It was yet another big night for senior Hunter Hughes, who led the Warriors with 21 points and eight steals. Colton Leichty finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Chase Waterhouse scored 11 points to give WACO three double-digit scorers.
Isaac Rich had seven points in the win. Clayton Miller put up six. Kellen Shelman had four. Joel Meyer and Isaac Egli scored three apiece, and both Reece Oswald and Lerik McCarty ended with two.
The WACO girls played tough against a Lone Tree team that has only lost once all season. The Warriors trailed 15-13 after one quarter, 26-19 at halftime and 41-31 after three periods.
WACO’s Emma Wagler finished the night with 15 points, which led the team. Brenna Graber chipped in eight points off the bench. Naomi Egli and Halle Shelman each scored five points. Ella Huisenga scored four, and Marie Farmer put up two.
