WACO, Cardinal top Warrior Relays
Van Buren County, Winfield-Mt. Union follow in second

WAYLAND — On Tuesday, boys track and field teams gathered in Wayland to take part in WACO’s annual Warrior Relays.
The 12 team field was split into two sections of six with an A and a B division.
Cardinal and Van Buren County led Union area teams in division A. Louisa-Muscatine, Central Lee, West Burlington and Wapello were also featured in the group.
WACO, Winfield-Mt. Union and New London took part in class B. Sigourney, Springville and Lone Tree competed in the class as well.
Winners on the day were Cardinal in group A and WACO in B.
Cardinal was the top placer in group A with 136 points. Van Buren County was close behind in second with 129.
The Warriors took the B team title with 182 points. Winfield-Mt. Union followed in second with 125 points. New London finished fifth with 57 points.
Cardinal’s Isaac Lett picked up a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.72. Lett ran a time of 11.29 to take second in the 100-meter dash as well.
The Comet’s Gavin Van Veen clocked a time of 2:12.69 in the 800-meter for the top spot. Nick Walker took third in the event as well. Walker ran a 2:21.73.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Jules Bois, Ty McIntosh and Mark Chichizola went two, three and four. Bois ran 18.87, McIntosh 20.11 and Chichizola 20.81.
Archer Metcalf was a second-place finisher in the 400-meter hurdles. Metcalf ran a 1:00.76.
In the 1600-meter run, Karson Kirkpatrick took third with a time of 5:21.70.
Christian Vass finished third in the 3200-meter after a time of 12:32.36.
In the sprint medley, Bradly Snook, Montana Rupe, Lett and Metcalf ran a top time of 1:39.55.
The Cardinal distance medley of Lett, Rupe, Metcalf and Van Veen took the win after running a 3:51.05.
The 4x110 shuttle hurdle of Bois, Kirkpatrick, Chichizola and Rupe were winners 1:17.34.
The Comets 4x800 of Kirkpatrick, Nick Walker, Jordan Davidson and Bradley Robinson took third with a time of 10:01.09.
In shot put, Cardinal’s Alec Rachford was a winner after a throw of 45-05.00 feet.
Rachford took second in the discus as well after launching a 135-02 foot throw.
Lincoln Bainbridge was a winner for the Warriors in the 1600-meter run after running a 5:04.37.
In the 110-meter dash, Tyler Stoltz finished first with a time of 16.57. Stoltz also won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet.
Wyatt Mertens took the victory in the long jump with a leap of 20-09.50.
Anthony Duncan won the 400-meter hurdles after clocking a 55.68.
Gavin Noll finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:57.19.
Cameron Stoltz placed third in discus after throwing 109-02.
Van Buren’s Bryce Moquin took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.15.
Kayden Simmons ran 55.84 for third in the 400-meter dash.
Bryce Newcomb, Joseph Debner, Izaak Loeffler and Simmons topped the field in the 4x400 after running a 3:49.53.
Loeffler, Bainbridge, Oliver Tackett and Korbin Camp were first-place finishers in the 4x800. The quartet ran 9:38.45.
The Warrior’s 4x100 of Stoltz, Dominic Meierotto, Moquin and Wyatt Mertens finished second after running a 47.10.
Duncan, Newcomb, Meierotto and Mertens were runners-up in the 4x200 as well. The four ran 1:35.62.
In Class B, WACO’s Simeon Reichenbach won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.58. Isaac Oswald finished third with a time of 11.69.
Reichenbach was a winner as well in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran 15.61 for the victory. Mason Miller followed in second at 16.45.
Oleh Shtefanchuk won the discus with a throw of 147 feet. Chase Waterhouse took second with a throw of 116.
Drew Diers was victorious in shot put with a throw of 40-05.75.
Reichenbach was runner-up in long jump with a jump of 20-06.00.
Miller also finished second in high jump with a leap of 6 feet.
Clayton Miller finished second in the 200-meter dash after running 24.16. Miller was also the runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.81.
Mattias Luitjens was a second-place finisher in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:10.35. Deacon Bird finished third with a time of 13:44.62.
Gage Samo won the 400-meter hurdles with a run of 1:02.13. Louden Huisenga finished third in the event with a time of 1:05.23.
The Warrior’s 4x100 of Braden Spain, Oswald, Mason Miller and Reichenbach were winners in 45.81.
WACO’s 4x200 of Spain, Isaac Rich, Kellen Shelman and Hunter Hughes took third after running a 1:41.81.
The 4x800 of Junior Quiroz, Drake Miller, Deacon Bird and Eli Cavin took first with a time of 11:35.96.
Spain, Trey Edeker, Hughes and Rich finished third as well in the sprint medley after running 1:47.50.
The Warrior’s Oswald, Huisenga, Clayton Miller and Mason Miller were winners in the 4x110 shuttle hurdle after posting a time of 1:06.38.
Gabriel Hemsworth was a winner for Winfield-Mt. Union. Hemsworth topped the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.41.
Jeff Maish won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:36.46.
Cam Buffington took the crown in the long jump with a jump of 20-08.25. Cole Milks finished third with a jump of 19-02.00.
Kohlby Newsom finished second in the 800-meter after posting a time of 2:04.99.z
In the 400-meter hurdles, Ty Scorpil ran a 1:02.15 for second.
Abram Edwards finished third in high jump with a leap of 5’6.
In the 4x400, WMU was a winner. Sheaden Adams, Hemsworth, Scorpil and Newsom ran a 3:40.66 for first.
Edwards, Lane Genkinger, Scorpil and Newsom won the distance medley after a time of 3:49.43.
The Wolves’ 4x100 of Cole Milks, Caleb Giese, Eli Miller and Buffington were runner-up with a time of 46.32.
Milks, Giese, Miller and Abram Edwards finished second as well with a time of 1:39.94.
Alex Venzor, Jaiden Beeding, Jacob Nelson and Bowen Thomson took second. The quartet ran 10:17.32.
New London had multiple winners on the day.
Rylan Martin was victorious in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:39.33. Cauy Garrett followed in third after posting a time of 5:06.51.
Kade Benjamin took the top spot in the high jump with a leap of 6’5.
Cael Wilka finished third in discus with a throw of 107-04.
The Tiger’s distance medley of Boden Pickle, London Franklin, Brigham Porter and Martin finished second with a time of 4:01.98.
The 4x100 of Pickle, Franklin, Cale Westerbeck and Porter finished third on a time of 46.98.
