After garnering only one win last season, the WACO Warriors rebounded with a competitive record in 2015 that saw them finish one win away from qualifying for the playoffs.
En route to the 3-6 record, which saw the Warriors win their first three district games, multiple athletes were awarded recognition on the All-District Team list.
Bryce Achen
Leading the charge in WACO?s first-team selections is senior running back Bryce Achen.
Achen finished off a strong career with his biggest season totals, posting 1,396 yards and 19 touchdowns. Both of those marks put Achen at second in the district, behind Lone Tree?s Jared Hudson.
Although Achen was chosen to represent the offense, he also made a big impact for the Warriors defensively. The WACO senior posted 49.5 tackles on the year to lead the team, incluing three going for a loss and one sack.
Cody Crawford
Helping lead the rushing attack this season was a stout offensive line, led by sophomore Cody Crawford. Crawford was a first team selection as he helped anchor a line that paved the way for 2,166 yards on the ground this season and 30 rushing touchdowns.
Crawford also pitched in 18 tackles on the season, with three going for a loss and one sack.
Jackson Gerot
A big part of the WACO defense, senior Jackson Gerot earned his way onto the All-District list as a first-team defensive lineman.
Gerot finished second on the team with 41 tackles, but led the team with nine tackles for a loss (tied for first in the district) and six sacks (second in the district).
Gerot also finished the year with 12 catches for 161 yards to finish second on the team in both categories.
Colton Horak
The fourth and final first team selection for the Warriors was freshman Colton Horak, who was named the district?s best punter.
Horak punted 18 times this season, averaging 35.5 yards per punt with a long of 54, and also made a big offensive and defensive impact for the Warriors.
He finished fourth in the district with 395 receiving yards, taking three of his 19 catches for touchdowns, while also getting some late-season work as the Warriors? running back.
Defensively, Horak made 19 tackles and led the team with three interceptions.
Duncan Pickard
WACO senior Duncan Pickard earned second-team honors for the Warrriors in the postseason recognition, as he finished the season with 30 tackles and one sack.
The Warrior senior led the team in fumble recoveries with two.
Gabe Black
WACO junior Gabe Black had a strong year offensively and defensively, earning second-team All-District honors.
Black rushed for 535 yards and seven scores for the Warriors, while posting 33 tackles (third on the team) and a tackle for a loss for the defense.
WACO will lose eight seniors from this year?s squad, as they look to improve on the progress they made in 2015 next year.
