WACO drops another nailbiter

MONTEZUMA - The WACO football team nearly staged a 28-point comeback on Friday niht, but the Warriosr came up just one score short, eventually falling to Montezuma 62-57.
After a Montezuma pick-six, the Warriors trailed 55-27 in the third quarter. They would go on to score three times to cut the lead to 55-50 in the fourth.
The Braves tacked one on to go back up by 12 on a 27-yard touchdown run. The Warriors cut it back to five with a touchdown pass from Nik Coble to Elijah McGohan in the final minutes, but the clock ran out before they could find the end zone again.
'Turnovers and penalties were the difference in the game,” said head coach Chad Edeker. 'We had three turnovers and 16 penalties. We outgained tehm, but penalties kept putting us in bad down and distance situations.”
Coble finished the day 21-40 for 275 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran the ball for 204 yards and four scores.
McGohan ended the game with 69 yards and two scores. Jaden Williams caught 10 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown,a nd Robert Frazer caught seven passes for 98 yards.
The WACO defense had two takeaways on the night. Coble and Pietro Vannini each picked off one pass.
The Warriors have played four-straight games decided by 10 points or less. All three of their losses have been by seven or less points.
WACO (1-3, 0-2) will host Iowa Valley this week.
