WAYLAND - It was a rare low-scoring game for the WACO Warriors on Friday night. WACO fell to Lone Tree 36-20, keeping the Lions in the district hunt while handing the Warriors their fifth loss of the season.
The Warriors struck first, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Nik Coble to Robert Frazer, but Lone Tree answered with two scores of their own. Harmon Miller ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter and connecting on two two-point conversions to give the Lions a 16-6 lead.
After a scoreless second quarter, WACO cut the lead back to two early in the third. Jaden Williams caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Coble, and Frazer ran in the two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 16-14.
Lone Tree went back up by 14 points with two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. Going into the fourth, the Lions led 28-14.
Frazer caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Coble to cut the lead back to 28-20 in the fourth. The two-point conversion failed, however, and Lone Tree tacked on eight more poitns of their own to ice the game.
Coble went 18-39 for 233 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the loss. Frazer had 113 yards receiving and two touchdowns,a dn Williams had 86 yards through the air and one score.
Collins had 8 solo tackles and nine tackle assists to lead the defense. He had one fumble recovery, as did Braden Hammond.
WACO is now 3-5 on the year and 2-4 in district play. They'll close out the season this week at Winfield-Mt. Union.
