WACO edges Columbus, Mid-Prairie falls in 4

Thursday’s area small school volleyball roundup was highlighted by a nail-biter between WACO and Columbus and a tough home loss for Mid-Prairie.
WACO 3, Columbus 2
The Warriors rallied back to beat the Wildcats in five sets after Columbus took the first two games of a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division battle.
WACO had to battle in a wild fourth and fifth sets, holding off Columbus 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-13.
Emma Wagler had 14 kills for WACO. Marie Farmer finished with nine kills, and Jessica Unternahrer tallied four aces.
Columbus’ Lily Coil went off for 21 kills in the loss. Jessica Del Rio netted 11.
Winfield-Mount Union 3, Pekin 0
The Wolves continued to dominate SEISC North competition, winning 25-10, 25-16, 25-11.
Mariana Piper and Quin Smith each had six kills in the win. Aurey Meeker dished out 10 assists and led the team with three aces. Piper had three blocks, and Tessa Huston led the team with 10 digs.
WMU brings an unbeaten 7-0 record into Tuesday night’s game with Wapello. The Arrows are also 7-0, meaning whoever wins on Tuesday will be SEISC North champions.
No. 13 (2A) Iowa City Regina 3, No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 1
The Golden Hawks lost the second and third sets in extras, as Iowa City Regina ousted Mid-Prairie in a wild four-set match. The Regals walked away winners 22-25, 30-28, 28-26, 25-17 in a battle of River Valley powers.
Despite the loss, Jovi Evans had another stellar night, finishing with 18 kills, 30 digs and 29 assists.
Harper Pacha had 15 kills for Mid-Prairie. Callie Huber finished with 13. Dakota Mitchell led the defense with 31 digs.
New London 3, Fort Madison 1
The Tigers capitalized on a monster game from Soophie Malott, who connected on 28 kills to push New London past Fort Madison 25-20, 21-25, 25-28, 25-17.
No. 14 (2A) West Burlington 3, Van Buren County 0
The Warriors couldn’t hold off the 14th-ranked Falcons in SEISC South action.
West Burlington controlled each set, winning 25-9, 25-16 and 25-7.
Highland 3, Louisa-Muscatine 0
The Huskies kept the Falcons winless, dominating three-straight sets. Highland won sets 25-9, 25-17 and 25-12.
Lorelei Lueck had 10 kills for the Huskies. Sarah Burton finished with eight kills, and Grace Prybil dished out 17 assists.
Hillcrest Academy 3, Lone Tree 0
The Ravens picked up an SEISC North road win, rolling past Lone Tree in straight sets, 25-10, 25-13 and 25-20.
Malia Yoder tallied 13 kills for the Ravevns, and also led the way with 15 digs. Claire Withrow dished out 13 assists.
Keota 3, Lynnville-Sully 1
The Eagles grounded the Hawks in South Iowa Cedar League play. Keota held home court, winning 25-15, 16-25, 25-17, 25-17.
Kennedy Jackson led the Eagles with eight kills in the win. Cassandra Swantz had six kills, and Kimberly Clarahan finished the night with 40 digs.
